Summary/Abstract: Numerous fields, including legal, have been impacted by artificial intelligence (or AI for short) lately. In this paper we will first analyze the background of the emergence of AI, the types of intelligence and the possible reasons why artificial intelligence arose. Further, we will deal with the issue of legislation in the field of AI, both at the national, European and international level. In addition to the legislation, an important aspect addressed is the practice of the courts. There are already a number of internationally relevant decisions in the field of AI, mainly from the US and China. How these cases are resolved by the courts will shape how we view AI in the future, from a legal perspective and beyond. Beyond jurisprudence, however, there is the legal (and slightly philosophical) question: who can be the copyright holder for works of artificial intelligence? Or, more than that, do we have a copyright holder here? But one thing is clear: just as artificial intelligence is in a continuous learning process, so is man, challenged by its emergence.
