Summary/Abstract: Until the end of the 18th century, cemeteries were a natural part of Kraków, where the life of the inhabitants took place, both in terms of religious ceremonies in temples and everyday urban life. The Austrian authorities, modernizing the city’s functioning, banned burials in city cemeteries, and a general cemetery was established in 1803 near the village of Rakowice. In 2020, at 22E Rakowicka Street, i.e., between the city and the cemetery, a new modern building of the National Archives in Kraków was built, with the archives stored there bringing former Kraków inhabitants out of the darkness of oblivion, including: the traveller Anzelm Teodor Dzwonkowski (1764–1850) and his family.
