Summary/Abstract: Marta Maciejewska’s book Dialektyka formy. Pełnometra-żowe filmy fabularne Jana Švankmajera [Dialectics of Form:Jan Švankmajer’s Feature Films] (2023) is an attempt toprove that in Švankmajer’s full-length productions the lan-guage of these films is incorporated by the surrealistlanguage of short films, resulting in a completely new,original film form. The proposed hypothesis, due to itspoor theoretical grounding and overly extensive filmdescriptions, can be defended only to a minimal extent.Nevertheless, Maciejewska’s book is a key title for thosewho want to get acquainted with the complete creativeprofile of one of the most fascinating artists in contempo-rary cinema.
