Summary/Abstract: Museum specialists face the challenge of presenting the historical truth as genuinely as possible, based on scientific evidence and artefacts. For this purpose, periodic updating of the historical narrative in the museum is necessary. The National Museum of History – Sofia is an institution with over 50 years of experience in the “telling“ of Bulgarian history and authority in forming a worldview regarding Bulgarian history among Bulgarians and foreign guests in the country. The article presents a modern concept of the national historical narrative of the Bulgarian Revival in the exhibition of the National Museum of History, which takes into account intercultural dialogue, regional and global contexts to represent the affirmation of the Bulgarian national identity. New museological approaches and methods are proposed. The practical realization is also described: a modernized museum narrative about the Bulgarian lands under Ottoman rule 15-19 centuries in hall 4 of the Museum, in the presence of a complex picture of the era, with a logical connection between the processes and the context of the European political and cultural history of the period, achieved through specific museological concepts and with the possibility of renewing and upgrading the content.
