Summary/Abstract: The Europeanization of Chinese opera began after the emergence of official opera in China in the 1930s and 1940s. At first, in the Chinese singing and educational circles the Western methods of opera singing were taught only in theory. Although in the 1950s and 1960s the Western opera suffered a setback, later in the 1970s and 1980s it experienced a real flourishing, and it was then when the first world-class opera singing talents appeared in China. Many Chinese opera singers went abroad and began to have a close contact with Western music, and to study and perform it.
