Summary/Abstract: This article was written on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the publication of A.V. Šembera’s dialect compendium Základové dialektologie československé (Fundamentals of Czechoslovak Dialectology) (1864) and above all of the journal article by Josef Kouble Podřečí severních Čech (Sub-dialect of North Bohemia) (1864). It is devoted mainly to Kouble’s description of the Krkonoše foothills sub-dialect, placing it into a broader context, confronting it with the results of the Czech Language Institute’s correspondence surveys, the Czech Language Atlas and the results of the author’s own long-term research on the Krkonoše dialect. It passes over the basic dialect features usually listed as typical for the Krkonoše foothills, or in some cases for the broader northeastern Bohemian area, and concentrates on dialect signs occurring sporadically in the contemporary vernacular and on archaic phenomena which are no longer been found in the Krkonoše foothills. From the later dialect descriptions, the less well known authors Josef Stránský and Božena Krpatová are mentioned, and in the conclusion, the direction of contemporary research on dialects is briefly sketched.
