The Misunderstanding: An A. I. Music Technology Perspective on Show Flow in the Theater of the Future

Summary/Abstract: One essential problem of technology is the ever-increasing rate at which it becomes outdated. In the arts, the situation can be quite the opposite: while new technologies are indeed championed for their expressive potential as soon as they arrive, old technologies surface again and again for the very same reason, redefining constantly the meaning of “obsolescence.” There are no driver nor cross-platform issues when it comes to the creative ingenuity of a human mind; however, an unheard-of-before new technological AI-driven paradigm is evolving as we speak, casting a significant question mark over the creative and educational relevance of old technologies. This article proposes an arch over three distinct technological solutions to the same creative problem of show flow within the framework of a theater soundtrack, in the context of an unprecedented artistic crisis: the advent of artificial intelligence.
