Summary/Abstract: The article aims to show how students approach the doctor-patient relationship using a specific language (examination, communication of the diagnosis and the planned course of treatment, etc.), making use of their oral communication skills acquired during Romanian as a foreign language classes. The article proposes a didactic scenario for a seminar entitled "Taking the dog to the vet: specific vocabulary for medical examination". The seminar includes modern teaching and learning methods such as brainstorming, the cube method (for the acquisition of specialised language related to a certain category of diseases), SINELG (a very efficient technique for studying a new, unknown specialised text), starbursting (for the understanding of the class work), the mosaic method (for the acquisition of specialised medical language) and role-playing (simulating a dialogue between the veterinarian and the owner of a sick pet). The teaching of Romanian as a foreign language is much more effective when active-participatory and group methods are used.
