Summary/Abstract: To avoid aids such as neck straps and pegs that help redistribute the weight of playing the clarinet, inventors have found ways to change the pad of the thumb. The report will look at four different variants of models based on different methods to prevent thumb pain when playing the clarinet: Kooiman thumb-rests, Ridenour’s thumb saddle, All Thumbs REST, and the woodwind friendly Ergo pad.
