Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to explain how a music performer is supposed to work with urtext editions of works by J. S. Bach and how to interpret them. In Bach’s original text, slurs are very rare, and there are almost no agogic or dynamic signs. Therefore there is also the question of how we can understand the musical text presented to us and how to interpret it correctly. The performer should have a good knowledge of the times when the composer lived and composed. A good concept is needed about terms like: musical - rhethorical figures, articulation, ornamentation, rhythm. That way the musician would be able to interpret the composer’s intentions as exactly as possible and bring them to life in the 21st century.
