Texture as the main means of expression in collage book illustration

Summary/Abstract: Texture in the context of collage book illustration takes on distinctive features that are not yet well defined at this stage. Used in this genre, texture turns from a mere element of the artistic expression into a primary means of expression with particularities imposed by the nature of book publishing. This modification leads to a change of the impact the illustrated materials have on the reader by the means of connotation. The current research article aims to establish the terminological frame of this phenomenon that is derived from the existing practice through a visual analysis of the work of selected illustrators of the 20th and 21st centuries (Margrit Roelli, Eric Carle, Guilherme Karsten).
