Summary/Abstract: The opera is an exclusively broad form of dramatic art and its strong influence is deeply embraced by the public. The origin and the development of the Chinese national opera scenic art is mainly due to the social changes and the needs of the masses. The Chinese opera starts its life from the early „children musicals“ in the beginning of the last century, passes through the constant evolution of the „yangge“ opera from Yan’an during the 30s and 40s of the last century, and reaches to the creation of the “White Hair Girl” , a national opera which is a cornerstone of this genre. It forms a unique type of music drama, popular among the people at that time, called „Chinese national opera“. With the successful performance of „White Hair Girl“, the Chinese national opera enters an unprecedented period of development. After the foundation of People’s Republic of China, the new situation creates a new environment for this development. The artists actively accept and embrace some techniques of the Chinese traditional opera based on conditional studying, as well as influence from the Western opera. Concerning the subject and content, with gaining more experience and more pieces a significant improvement is achieved.
