Summary/Abstract: The paper describes 25 years of Polish foreign policy after the regaining of independence in 1989. This has been divided into five periods with visible hiatuses. The article presents theses about evolutional nature of the transformation in Polish foreign policy after the fall of Communism, the common political consensus before the NATO and EU accession, and about the growing influence of internal politics on the attitude of particular political entities towards foreign policy in the two last periods. Russian aggression against Ukraine, which poses new challenges to Poland, is the caesura that closes quarter-century and begins the new, sixth period in the history of Polish diplomacy after 1989.
