Summary/Abstract: In Into the West the history is presented through two families, one from Virginia and onefrom the Lacota Nation. It is a hybrid form of narration, where fictious characters meet historicalfigures and take part in historical events. It gives the audience the feel of the history, customs andintercultural relations of the 19th century America. It is one of very few positive instances of on screenfictionalization of historical events of Native Americans. It is also an interesting example of culturalmemory. Into the West stands out as one of the least stereotypical portrayals of indigenous peoples inthe popular culture.
