Summary/Abstract: The literature suggests that the approach to disability has evolved over the years from the medical to the social model and later, with the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, to the human rights model. Every state that has signed and ratified the Convention has made efforts to harmonize national legislation in accordance with the latter model. In this article we intend to analyze the evolution of Romanian legislation in the direction of adopting the human rights model, highlighting the development of laws of the past 30 years in the area of protecting persons with disabilities and the dominant model reflected in their content.
