Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the study is to synthetically presentthe activities of the Social Councils of the Bish-ops of Katowice Herbert Bednorz (1967–1985),Damian Zimoń (1985–2011) and Wiktor Skwoc(2011–2023).The functioning of these councils will be placedagainst the theology of the laity and the apostolateof the laity, the historical background of the Coun-cil’s activities will be outlined, and their compo-sition, mode of functioning, course of work andsignificant documents will be presented.This structure is dictated by both historical-do-cumentary and theological-pastoral considerationsso that in learning about what has been accom-plished, inspiration can be found to improve theforms of commitment and future cooperation ofclergy and laity for the common good.
