Controversial Issues of the Ecclesiastical History of the Criş (Körös)-Region in Its Early Period

Summary/Abstract: In previous years the interest of research on the early history of the diocese of Oradea in early Árpád-age has renewed. The disputes emerged around questions concerning ecclesiastical organization and archontology. Therefore, the circumstances of the formation of the diocese and the careers of the first known bishops were thoroughly analysed. In these frameworks special attention has been paid to the possible relations between the dioceses of Eger and Oradea. In this context, however, recent research has failed to revise one of the most important problems of the early ecclesiastical history of the Criş-region, namely the situation of the archdeaconry of Pâncota, which belonged to the bishopric of Eger. The purpose of this study is on one hand to refine the questions that have emerged during new research by incorporating additional perspectives, on other hand to suggest further questions for research.
