Summary/Abstract: The first year of Pomerania’s affiliation to the reborn Poland, 1920, was markedby economic problems and the weakness of Polish statehood, which was largelycreated from scratch. This raised the role of the army, which played a fundamentalrole in the takeover of Pomerania in January and February 1920. This article ana-lyzes the causes and symptoms of the tensions that existed between the army andboth the civil authorities and society in general, which contributed to the slowdownin the pace of Pomerania’s integration with Poland in the first years of independence.
