Summary/Abstract: The article examines the data altruism framework established under the EuropeanUnion’s Data Governance Act (DGA) and its potential to foster trust in voluntarydata sharing. The DGA, effective from September 2023, introduces legal measuresto facilitate the altruistic sharing of personal and non-personal data for objectivesof general interest, such as healthcare, scientific research, and disaster response. The study aims to evaluate the regulatory framework’s effectiveness in buildingtrust, focusing on three key aspects: the potential recipients of altruistically shareddata, the possibility of commercial use of such data, and the transparency ofdata processing activities. The findings suggest that while the framework offersmechanisms to enhance trust, its voluntary nature and potential implementationchallenges may limit its overall impact.
