Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the problem of the real in the work of three exemplary directors of the French New Wave – Jean-Luc Godard, Jean-Marie Straub, and Danielle Huillet. The cinema of the 1960s, particularly the French New Wave, was driven by the revolutionary utopia of changing the world. How did three of the most original and heretical film directors embody its requirement? How did it redraw the internal boundaries of cinematic work and its boundaries with other narrative arts? Moreover, how does this requirement redraw the boundaries of the image of the real itself?
