Summary/Abstract: The landscape surface of the Great Donbass contains a variety of geological sources of sedimentary and metamorphosed types of stone, which were in demand in ancient times for making the stone tools. This list includes the types of stone available for chipping, i.e. flint, quartzite, jasper, chalcedony, etc. In the Donbass, the natural pantries of flint of Upper Cretaceous genesis are the most significant, whereas chalcedony was used sporadically. In the North-Western Donbass, a workshop for the primary splitting of chalcedony (mainly) and flint has been known since 1962. It is located near Verolyubovka village of the Konstantinovka district of Donetsk region in the basin of the Kazennyi Torets river. A collection of split chalcedony and flint is picked up at the surface. They split local chalcedony by the same technologies as for flint splitting. This unique site testifies the adaptable raw material strategy of the local Neolithic population.
