Summary/Abstract: Teofil Magdziński, a former January Uprising insurgent, belonged to a small group ofnational activists operating in the second half of the 19th century in Bydgoszcz, a city considered abastion of Germanness in the east. He was a long-time representative of Poles in the Prussian andthe German parliaments. He died on 1 February 1889. We lost another fighter for the Polish cause inthe parliamentary forum and the depletion of the circle of Wielkopolska social activists. The funeralof Magdziński, which took place on 6 February 1889 in Bydgoszcz, was a great patriotic manifesta-tion attended by many local Poles and representatives from the entire province. The funeral speechover the coffin was delivered by Father F. Stablewski, an excellent orator. His speech was not onlya laudation in honor of the deceased, but also guidance for future generations, explaining whatpatriotism, love of the homeland and being a good Christian are about. It explained the fate of thePolish nation in an allegorical way.
