Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to study the scale and explain the causes of thedisappearance (assimilation or extinction) of ethnic groups in Eurasia and Africa overthe last hundred years. In order to obtain the necessary information that is as completeas possible, a method of systematic cataloging of scientific literature, mainlyethnographic, historical, linguistic and political science, was used, and in the absence ofavailability of such, media reports were drawn upon. The fact that the extinction ofethnic groups has greatly accelerated in the past three decades was noted. Perhapssurprisingly, the extinction was noted mainly in the democratic states of the so-called“new world”, which are regarded as protecting the rights of minorities: United States,Australia, Canada and others (see part 2). More than 100 extinct peoples in 100 years isnot a good prognosis for the struggling survival of numerically small ethnic groups, ofwhich there are many. The main causes of the disappearance of ethnic diversity arelisted. Counteracting these processes can save the world from the reduction ofhumanity's cultural and genetic diversity.
