Summary/Abstract: Undoubtedly the most important writer from Gaul in the 5th century was Saint John Cassian (circa 360-435), most likely born in Scythia Minor, which is today's Dobrogea. Although he is an extremely important author for Eastern ascetic spirituality, we still have little information about this Latin-speaking monk from Dobrogea.
