Summary/Abstract: In the Gospel read yesterday at the Liturgy (John 5:1-15), we learned about the healing of the paralytic at Bethesda, this poor man who had been in loneliness and abandonment for thirty-eight years. He had no one to throw him into that pool to receive healing. Often, we also suffer from this disease of loneliness. Loneliness is not just a biological suffering, dear brother and dear sister. Loneliness is an existential suffering, a suffering of the heart. We can say that it is the suffering of contemporary man. I am not referring to physical loneliness, to loneliness as isolation, to the fact that we are often alone and do not have family, do not have children, do not have friends with whom to share joys and sorrows. I am not referring to this kind of loneliness, although man needs man. I am referring to spiritual loneliness
