Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on the interpretive use of photography in qualitative research.It’s not just a record of historical reality, but a contemporary turn towards the image and an attemptto interpret it. The author, drawing from various anthropological sources and the sociology of pho-tography, analyzes research material through photographs collected during fieldwork in the ŁowiczLand. These photographs, an important element in the unstructured interviews with local leaders, aretreated as cultural texts created by the researcher and studied in the social discourse.
