Summary/Abstract: In an encyclopaedic fashion, the authoress traces the thirty-four year long profes¬sional career of the acclaimed Slovak opera concert artist, the bass Sergej Kopcak (1948), inclusive of his over twenty-year guest performances with the New York Metropolitan Opera, which commenced in 1983 (not a single Slovak and only a handful of foreign opera soloists can mention this in their curricula vitae). He is characterized by a big, bel canto voice with a particular feel for Slavic, and especially for Russian operas. Between 1974-1996, he was the soloist of the opera en¬semble of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava, currently, he appears as guest artist on several international and European opera stages, especially on the stage of MET, with which he has a contract signed up until 2006. In the 2003/2004 theatre season, he will be singing Fafner in Wagner's Rynske zlato (Das Rheingold/The Rhingold) and Sieg¬fried, the part of Hunding in Valkyrie (Die Walkiire/The Valkyrie), and Priest in Arnold Schonberg's Mojzis a Aron (Moses und Aron/Moses and Aron)
