Summary/Abstract: The proposed article deals with the issues of Greek colonization of the Lower Bug region in the archaic period. Separate issues related to the historical development, state structure and economic activity of the Greek colonists in the 7th-5th centuries BC are analyzed. As a result of the historical review, the authors join the conclusion that Olbia was the center of the polis in the Lower Bug region from the very beginning. Berezan was founded in the middle of the 7th century BC, as an emporium of Miletus, for trade exchange with local tribes and extraction of raw materials for the metropolis. During the founding of the Olbian state, it included a settlement on the island of Berezan, which served as a craft center, seaport and trade emporia of the Olbiopolites.
