Elements of musical mediation in the educational concert: analysis of the educational concert Carnival of the Animals

Summary/Abstract: This study focuses on the elements of mediation in the educational concert for children: verbal explanation and dialogue with the audience, musical examples, comparative listening, focusing auditory attention, modeling activities, and participation in interpretation. After describing a number of representative examples from the concerts of Leonard Bernstein, David Wallace, and the author, the complete analysis of the educational concert Carnival of the Animals, moderated and conducted by the author, follows. Detailing the concert allows for a deeper understanding of the use of various elements of musical mediation in the context of the concert's dramaturgy.
