Summary/Abstract: The present article is an attempt at revealing the real medieval Bulgarian name of a region in the northeast of Bulgaria mentioned in Greek chronicles from the 11th century as Ἑκατὸν βουνοὺς ‘hundred hills’. In a 10th century praktikon from Athos a Bulgarian villager named Paul Stogoritzi is mentioned. It is quite possible that the name Stogoritzi derives from a toponym which could refer to Ἑκατὸν βουνοὺς.
