Summary/Abstract: Bishop Olszański is certainly one of the most distinguished pastors in the history of the Catholic Church in Ukraine. Given that Bishop Olszański had a reputation for sanctity while still alive and an uninterrupted private cult after his death, preparations for his beatification process began in 2019. The Diocese of Kamianets-Podilskyi has stepped in as a plaintiff of the case. In February 2019, the postulator of the case submitted a request to Bishop Dubrawski to initiate an investigation into the heroicity of Jan Olszański’s virtues. After hearing the opinion of the priestly council, the Bishop of Kamyanets-Podilskyi asked the Bishops’ Conference to express a judgement on the rightness of starting the case. Having obtained a positive opinion from the Conference in November 2019, Bishop Dubrawski sent a nihil obstat request to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. On 17 December 2021, in response to the request of the Bishop of Kamyanets-Podilskyi, the aforementioned dicastery stated that there were no obstacles from the Holy See. The ceremonial opening of the beatification process took place on 23 February 2023. At the present stage of the conduct of the beatification cause, it is difficult to determine how it will proceed, especially as its implementation has been significantly hampered by the escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
