Summary/Abstract: Improperly called media lynching, media virulent attacks against a personality (politician or not), aimed the discrediting in the eyes of the public and, by extension, creating an unfavorable opinion trend. In a society that respects democratic values, the term media lynching is also a reflection of semantic excesses characteristic for press in general and Romanian press in particular. Beyond these excesses, to the point explicit and relatively often used, attempted to discredit using the press became chronic for the philosopher Andrei Pleşu, the reason being the desire to mitigate its impact on public having a higher education than average, partly opinion maker. Collaterally, effects were opposite, strengthening its position in his own prestige group and solidarity of an impressive number of supporters through public protests and social networks.
