Summary/Abstract: The communist concentrational universe, in its various aspects – prisons, investigation centers, transit prisons, labor camps, house arrest, deportation – can be considered a form of non-place. Communist prisons’ memoirs present interchangeable places, where the human being is in a continuous interim state and the authorities try by various means to annihilate the individuality, to turn people into an amorphous mass and to reduce prisoners to anonymity. The prisoner’s condition may be associated with a "passenger", but in this case the destination is often an enigma, a grueling journey between inquiry centers, prisons and labor camps.
