Summary/Abstract: The point of view (POV), by which we distinguish the narrative perspective, represents a key perspective in the novel’s comprehension. Starting from Alain Rabatel’s works, the author of this article is proposing to approach the construction of the point of view in a narrative text, by following the methods of textual linguistics and pragmatics. The analysis will be based on the novel The Golden Droplet by Michel Tournier, which is a heterodietetic narrative that deals with intercultural relationships. Starting from the model proposed by Alain Rabatel, our purpose will consist in identifying particular cases of point of view in the text and observing the manner in which they influence the development and the progression of the narrative discourse. Considering the distinction between figure / fond and the linguistic marks specific to the point of view, as well as the distinction between speaker and enunciator, we will attempt to provide an analysis of the functioning of the POV in the narrative in general, followed by the particular case of Tournier’s novel. We will then try to indicate if and how the character’s point of view interacts with the narrator’s point of view in the narrative. This analysis will also profit from the theoretical findings of researchers influential on Rabatel’s own model. We will take into consideration the categories proposed by Dorrit Cohn, the “unspeakable sentences” of Ann Banfield, where we find two of Rabatel’s points of view (“représenté” and “rapporté”), but also the notions that are linked to Oswald Ducrot’s polyphonic theory of the utterance.
