Summary/Abstract: One of the major demographic phenomena of the 21st century is the ageing of the population, which is unprecedented in the world as well as in France. Its measurement requires considering two different concepts: ageing in the strict sense and gerontogrowth. Data analysis highlights four different types of territorial developments, which consequently call for different local policies. The data used in this text are not the main ones, but they illustrate the methodology for geographical analysis of the ageing of the population.
