Summary/Abstract: The adoption of the Convention of Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as the establishment of the concept of the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage, contributed to the reconsideration of tasks of museums and to the inclusion оф museums in the system of safeguarding of living heritage. The paper analyzes the framework that was established at the international and national levels, implementation of administrative measures and outlines new responsibilities assigned to museums. The aim of the paper is to review the ways and implications of introducing the concept of safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage into museum practice in Serbia, focusing on the challenges that are faced by the work to safeguard cultural heritage in collaboration with communities in the context of identifying, researching, recording, and presenting ICH.
