Summary/Abstract: The text traces the data on spinning and weaving technology and their incorporation into early ritual and religious contexts. In the ancient world, textile production developed in a domestic, female environment. Therefore, all deities related to weaving and spinning are female. They determine the destiny of man not only in Indo-European mythologies, but also in those of other distant parts of the world. Some of the terms for twisting, weaving and spinning in several languages are examined. Every stage in the spinning and weaving process has its own mytho-ritualistic specificity.
