Summary/Abstract: In Bulgarian historiography even to this day there are controversial discussions and debates to which it is still quite difficult to give an unambiguous answer. One of them is the debate about establishing the years when Telets was the Khan of Bulgaria. The difficulty of accurately dating the period of Khan Telets’ reign is due to the lack of sufficient information in the main sources, the manuscripts “Nominalia of the Bulgarian Khans” and “The Chronicle“ of Theophanes Confessor (759–817), who was a clergyman and chronicler in the Byzantine Empire. In attempting to answer the question that inspires our research we come across interesting astronomical data in the manuscript “Chronicle”, which could complement existing statements on this subject and help find a conclusion to this long-standing debate.
