Summary/Abstract: The article is about the pedologist scholar, a distinguished personality – Nicolae Dimo, a wide minded nature, who throughout his life has been concerned with various issues in pedology, agronomy and soil improvement. He is the author of about 200 scientific papers and dozens of pedological and ameliorative maps for various territories. His scientific activity includes: soil geography and genesis, soil classification and nomenclature (has revealed a new type of soil - seroziom), salinated soils improvement, soil biology (was concerned with the role of micro- and meso-fauna in the pedogenesis process) and the physical and chemical properties of different soils (has established the dependence of humus content on the texture of different chernozem subtypes), soil mapping. The geography of pedological researches includes Russia (Saratov, Cernigov, Penza, Moscow), Middle Asia, Caspian Depression, Transcaucasia, Moldova.
