Deinstitutionalisation of the Children at Risk in Bulgaria – Premises and Contemporary Dituation

Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the raising of children outside their „biological family“, familiar as institutional care. It reviews the factors that lead to the institutionalisation of children in Bulgaria and outlines the model of supra-institutionalisation. Furthermore, the current state of the child protection system in Bulgaria is described in the context of the deinstitutionalisation efforts. Finally, the results of the deinstitutionalisation process are outlined based on the findings of several research projects.
