Summary/Abstract: This study is focused on a controversial topic of history, the origin and migration of the Roma to Europe, a topic that still remains a field of hypotheses, although numerous advances have been made, especially from the linguistic point of view. This study summarizes our research so far, historical approaches, but also human geography. I presented some ethnogenic legends, to which I added old Romanian or European traditions. There is no shortage of analyzes on the hypotheses of Kogălniceanu, Potra or Chelcea and recent authors Achim or Sărău. When Roma population came to Europe, it was considered to be of the Egyptians descendance; hence such a medieval ethnonym, but studies of comparative philology have demonstrated their Indian origin and a migration of several centuries to Europe, with a longer stay in Persia and Byzantine Empire. In the Romanian space, they are attested in the 14th century and their main characteristics were nomadism and slavery.
