Summary/Abstract: Abstract: The article attempts to analyse the role of films as a teaching method in the process of Romanian language teaching to international students enrolled in the preparatory programme for foreign citizens in the Romanian language at the “1 Decembrie 1918” University of Alba Iulia. The main purpose of this study is to demonstrate the potential of this method in terms of developing and reinforcing linguistic and intercultural competencies, specifically visual literacy, within the context of developing multimedia competencies. It also investigates the potential advantages of this method concerning some key areas within the field of second language acquisition, including phonology and vocabulary. This approach enables students to understand Romanian culture as a foreign culture, as well as develop their competence in spelling, listening and the acquisition of language. It also allows students to distinguish between different sounds within a foreign language. The paper presents potential avenues for integrating films into various forms of educational activities, underscoring their pedagogical and instructive value. It will be demonstrated through the analysis of two films, Vlad Țepeș (1979) and a more recent one, Maria, Queen of Romania (2019), both plots presenting moments in the history of Romania.A series of exercises intended to be implemented before, during, and after film presentations have been devised to enhance students’ learning experience.
