Summary/Abstract: This article aims to analyze the role played by European monarchies in the current European political context. To achieve this objective, the article presents, in a synthetic form, the main European monarchies and the role that the monarch has in each one of them. A special emphasis in this analysis is placed on how the monarch relates to the entire domestic political spectrum in the case of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the exponent of the tradition and rigors of royalty.
