Summary/Abstract: The OldTestament metaphor of adultery/fornication is most emphatically represented found in Ezekiel 23 and is related to the apostasy of Samaria and Jerusalem from Jahweh due to their unfaithfulness and fornication. Thus has the relation between idolatry and adultery in metaphorical sense several times been stressed in the Scriptures. In the New Testament and the writings of the early Christian authors, the image of meretrix comes to designate the concept of metaphorical adulteration of the word of God and apostasy of faith from God in the garb of heresies, portrayed as the opposite of Nubia, that is, the Church. The theme of two adulterous wives offers insight into a much wider and more complex avenue of research. This article is designed as an outline of a more exhaustive topic and an introductory stage to it, which attempts to demonstrate that heresy and paganism have not seldom been treated analogously in textual sources.
