Summary/Abstract: The general visitation of Bishop K. Sołtyk closes the old Polish history of the diocese of Cracow. It was promulgated in 1781 and lasted until 1785. In the meantime, the Cracow Ordinary was incapacitated. The administration of the diocese was then taken over by Bishop M. Poniatowski of Plock. The bishops did not personally perform the visitation. This was done on their behalf by selected visitators. The article is an attempt to show the effort they made in carrying out their duties. One translation of the Latin word "visitatio" is "God's tribute." Certainly, for these few delegated clergymen, the work done may have looked like "God's tribute" at least sometimes.
