Summary/Abstract: Since the earliest times, stock breeding has had an important role in the life of the Balkan population. During the Turkish rule in Macedonia the Vlach's (Aromani "Armn") take up a special place in stock breeding. Towards the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century moving outfrom their old homes in South Albania and North-West Greece, a group of Vlach's - stock breeders settled in Eastern Macedonia. The Vlach's as nomads gathered in groups called "tayfi" travelled in summer and winter looking for fresh pastures for the stock, and carrying their entire household with them on horses and mules. Since the moving lasted several days or even a month, the Vlach's had to stop and sleep over. For these reasons they carried a certain type of a tent called ·'tenda". According to the traditional construction the Vlach tent is made from a wooden skeleton covered with a large and a small cloth woven in the common flat weave technique in black wool mixed with goat hair. In the interior decoration they used covers called "yambolii" for different purposes (for laying, covering, etc.) In the tent they stored about 10 woven bags from white and black wool, in which they kept their clothes and household. The food (milk and milk products) were kept in leather bags. According to the construction, conditions and content, the Vlach tent is a functional space adapted to the natural conditions and the nomadic way of life.
