Summary/Abstract: The spatial structure of cities in Poland over the last several years has undergone a remarkable transformation. The political transformation that has taken place in our country after 1989 had a significant impact on the processes and phenomena in the urban fabric. An important aspect of these transformations have been and are running in the urban transformation of functional industrial areas. One of the processes taking place in industrial areas in Polish cities after 1989 is a functional succession process that caused the emergence of the industrial areas of new business entities with different functions, most of the service function. In the paper presented, based on selected several small towns of Lower Silesia, functional succession processes in industrial areas covering thesubjects of the third sector of the national economy
