Summary/Abstract: The legion IV Flavia, created by Vespasian, was transferred from Dalmatia to Moesia Superior in 86 A.D., in the wake of Domitian’s war against the Dacians. Upon its arrival on the Danube, it was based in Viminacium, sharing the camp with VII Claudia. When Domitian forbade the practice of uniting two legions in one fortress, IV Flavia was moved to another camp on the Danube. Modern scholars have considered Aquincum and Margum as potential locations. One other possibility is the early earth-and-timber fortress at Singidunum.
