Signifying the Cultural Significance in Literary Texts in the Examples of Novalis and J. P. Hebel

Summary/Abstract: This paper gives an introduction to and analysis of literary, theoretical and cultural notions of significance/signifying (German: Bedeutsamkeit). It also addresses the question of how the process of development of significance occurs in a literary text, based on fragments of Novalis' writings, and poetical notes and a novella by Johann Peter Hebel.
