Summary/Abstract: Derviš Sušić began his literary work in the post-WWII ideologically burdened period, which was strongly characterized by cultural formalism and a precisely defined horizon of expectations of the ruling communist system. Literature had only one and one explicitly clear goal, and that was agitation through utilitarian, didactically simple and easily acceptable literary forms. Thus his first literary works were created by the desire that his art would, above all, be socially useful and employed for educational purposes. But it should be pointed out that after these first “socially” useful literary attempts, the process of Sušić’s literary adulthood was completed when he broke the shackles of firmly set aesthetic and ethical patterns. Consequently, he transcended the stereotype of socio-realistic utopian ideology in literature and his work started demonstrating his greatest novelistic weapon, and that is satirical introspection, which gave birth to his famous hero – the protagonist named Danilo Liščić. At the same time, his satirical humor became blurred on account of the vivacious dialogue form within his prose texts and of the direction that took Sušić back to his original vocation: playwriting. After the successful dramatization of the Danilo saga, Sušić dedicated himself to dramatization, returning to it again and again, often through the dramatization of his prose texts that actually represent the final form of his artistic thought. The character of Danilo was Sušić’s poetic milestone, and after Danilo, Sušić has almost all of his prose crowned by dramatization, some of which were smaller and some more successful. However, in such exploration of pre-registering of prose registry in the dramatic register, Sušić has managed to become a leading figure of the overall aesthetic of Bosnian literary drama.
